In Summer of 2017, Creative District and NextFab ran a series of no-cost Innovation Workshops for local artists. The workshops were an opportunity for creatives to broaden their skills through a series of classes and meet-ups offered through NextFab. The Innovation workshops were supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
In order to participate, creatives were required to apply. Applicants needed to be 18 years of age or older and preference was given to residents of Wilmington, DE. Artists were asked to explain in their application, how their opportunity to work at NextFab would significantly impact their work. It was also required that the applicants be able to participate in at least four workshops and 2 meet-ups at NextFab Wilmington.
In addition, all accepted participants received a two-month Community Membership to NextFab, which consists of three (3) access days per month.
As part of the Innovation Workshop, participants were required to take the New Member Orientation and Wood Shop Safety courses, which are both free with membership. Membership also enables participants to take additional NextFab courses at the membership price with the appropriate safety course and pre-requisites completed.
Wilmington Green Box’s Market location was built thanks in part to the Creative District’s Innovation Workshops at NextFab!
